THE DANGER OF TINSEL EYES
Tuesday, December 3, 2013
Ephesians 5:14-21 Therefore he [the Lord] says,
"Awake, sleeping ones! And arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you
light." 15 See then that you walk
circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand
what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do
not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to
yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody
in your heart to the Lord; 20 always
giving thanks for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, 21 submitting yourselves to one
another in the fear of God.
Though remote
possibility, people have experienced eye injuries from bits of tinsel.
It’s a different
tale when it comes to people being spiritually blinded by Christmas tinsel. Holiday
glitter commonly blinds many. But this problem isn’t exclusive to set aside December
calendar dates, is it?
The Apostle Paul
encouraged ocassion for celebratory worship. (Eph.5:18) He also spoke of reality
of 24/7 Romans 12:1-3 celebration of life in, by, and with Lord Jesus Christ: “For
unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but
also to suffer for his sake; . . . Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ
Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (Phil.1:29; 2Tim.3:12)
Am I hoping to
detract from the good times of Christmas? I am not. It is one of my favorite
times of the year. Enjoy! And let us keep a spiritually clear eye on reality so
as not to stumble over the iconic.
