THINKING ABOUT EDEN

THINKING ABOUT EDEN

Genesis; the beginning.

Awoke in the middle of the night thinking about lessons in Eden:

>I remembered young friend Fred teaching me that much basic theology is found there.

>The basic Biblical truth about responsibility in free will choice is plainly seen there.

>God’s plan is no secret.

>Eve went to Satan. Satan did not go to her.

>Satan did not tempt Adam. Eve passed the temptation on.

>Without evident resistance or discussion Adam took the bait.

>We see that Adam is the primarily responsible person.

>But as we read on we see redemption.

Romans 5:8-19 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one [Jesus Christ] shall many be made righteous.

THE SHIELD OF FAITH

THE SHIELD OF FAITH IN THE MIDST OF STRUGGLES

Ephesians [MKJV] 6:10-18 Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world's rulers, of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore take to yourselves the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching to this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

“People today are being swamped with a multitude of worries and cares. The remedies the world offers are oftentimes worse than the original problems themselves (as we saw with Covid). And the media is swift to bring all this to our door. We, as Christians, are affected by these things, and it is a temptation to put our focus on the challenges and trials. While the real solution lies in allowing Jesus to be the center of our lives through His Word and His Spirit. For many though, God has been excluded from their lives so all that is left is left, like Solomon, is ‘” vanity and vexation of spirit.’” (Eccl.12:8)   David Dombroski, LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS volume 10-#4

GOD'S TIMING

GOD’S TIMING

The Book of Exodus

Along with a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and fellowship I was privileged and thrilled at riding in my friend’s custom built 33’ coupe hotrod. Accelerating from 0 to 85 in seconds felt like being shot out of a cannon! I couldn’t stop grinning.

I awoke this morn thinking about the  exhilarating experience and my thoughts turned to the Israelites’ suddenly being moved from hundreds of years of familiar slavery. A rapid change they did not all express delight in.

A cautionary tale about God’s timing and our ideas on timing.

INTOUCH WITH THANKSGIVING

IN TOUCH WITH THANKSGIVING

Psalm 18:35-36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man [I thinking of the continuing effects of Adam’s distrust.] shall do unto me.

At the end of September I had back to back vestigial strokes number 12 &13 effecting balance and nausea. While initially recovering, early the morning of October 3 I had stroke # 14, a brain stem clot that completely paralyzed my left side and restricted all bodily movement including taking my voice and more.

I benefited as an Immanuel rehabilitation inpatient for the rest of October. I am near completing a month of outpatient rehab with another month scheduled (and possibly more).

The blessings of relationships and recovery continue to be many!

Among the many things I’ve learned is the important refrain “small victories”. Yesterday PT Joshua taught me that as little as 2 grams of touch would provide balance whether from a person or by touching a structure.

I add that I believe this includes being in touch with thanksgiving.

1Thessalonians [ESV] 5:16-24 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

CHRiSTIANS and THANKSGIVING

What should be the focus of Christians on Thanksgiving?

The original thanksgiving celebration was held by the Pilgrim settlers in Massachusetts during their second winter in America in December, 1621. The first winter had killed 44 of the original 102 colonists. At one point their daily food ration was down to five kernels of corn apiece, but then an unexpected trading vessel arrived, swapping them beaver pelts for grain, providing for their severe need. The next summer’s crop brought hope, and Governor William Bradford decreed that December 13, 1621, be set aside as a day of feasting and prayer to show the gratitude of the colonists that they were still alive.

These Pilgrims, seeking religious freedom and opportunity in America, gave thanks to God for His provision for them in helping them find 20 acres of cleared land, for the fact that there were no hostile Native Americans in that area, for their newfound religious freedom, and for God’s provision of an interpreter to the Native Americans in Squanto. Along with the feasting and games involving the colonists and more than 80 Native Americans (who added to the feast by bringing wild turkeys and venison), prayers, sermons, and songs of praise were important in the celebration. Three days were spent in feasting and prayer.

From that time forward, Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a day to give thanks to God for His gracious and sufficient provision. President Abraham Lincoln officially set aside the last Thursday of November, in 1863, “as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father.” In 1941, Congress ruled that after 1941, the fourth Thursday of November be observed as Thanksgiving Day and be a legal holiday.

Scripturally, we find things related to the issue of thanksgiving nearly from cover to cover. Individuals offered up sacrifices out of gratitude in the book of Genesis. The Israelites sang a song of thanksgiving as they were delivered from Pharaoh’s army after the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15). Later, the Mosaic Law set aside three times each year when the Israelites were to gather together. All three of these times [Unleavened Bread (also called the Feast of the Passover) (Exodus 12:15-20), Harvest or Pentecost (Leviticus 23:15-21), and the Feast of Ingathering or Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33-36)] involved remembering God’s provision and grace. Harvest and Tabernacles took place specifically in relation to God’s provision in the harvest of various fruit trees and crops. The book of Psalms is packed full of songs of thanksgiving, both for God’s grace to the Israelite people as a whole through His mighty deeds, as well as for His individual graces to each of us.

In the New Testament, there are repeated admonitions to give thanks to God. Thanksgiving is to always be a part of our prayers. Some of the most remembered passages on the giving of thanks are the following:

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6).

"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men" (1 Timothy 2:1).

Of all of God’s gifts, the greatest one He has given is the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. On the cross of Calvary, Jesus paid our sin debt, so a holy and just Judge could forgive us our sins and give us eternal life as a free gift. This gift is available to those who will call on Christ to save them from their sin in simple but sincere faith (John 3:16Romans 3:19-26Romans 6:23Romans 10:13Ephesians 2:8-10). For this gift of His Son, the gift which meets our greatest need, the Apostle Paul says, "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" (2 Corinthians 9:15).

We, like the Pilgrims, have a choice. In life there will always be those things that we can complain about (the Pilgrims had lost many loved ones), but there will also be much to be thankful for. As our society becomes increasingly secular, the actual “giving of thanks to God” during our annual Thanksgiving holiday is being overlooked, leaving only the feasting. May God grant that He may find us grateful every day for all of His gifts, spiritual and material. God is good, and every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17). For those who know Christ, God also works everything together for good, even events we would not necessarily consider good (Romans 8:28-30). May He find us to be His grateful children.

THE FENCE

THE FENCE

BIll Harrington explained that the 10 Commandments and all else of God’s Word is a fence that

protects us . . . if we honor the demarcation.

This includes staying in the Word as opposed to seeking guidance outside of, apart from, His Word. This truth is very clear in that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2Tim.3:16-17) … His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” (2Pet.1:3-4)

Are we at serious risk beyond THE FENCE if we seek counsel and guidance from those outliers grounded in the theories of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Karen Horney, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and others holding anti-Biblical theories?

  Indeed we are!

RESPONSES

RESPONSES TO COVERAGE

The question being: ”Why do you think God, in His Word (the Bible), provide so much coverage on Satan?”

Maybe warnings? Dick

+++

Per your question, why does satan get so much coverage in the Bible?  In a nutshell…

Satan was first called out in Genesis 3 as his deception lead to the “fall” of humanity, and the promise from God for redemption.  In the fall, Satan now owns the world and all people.  In the desert, Satan offered it all to Jesus, if Jesus would fall down and worship him.  Jesus resisted, as He was to obey God’s plan for our redemption.

“For we do nor wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”  (Ephesians 6:12).

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”  (Colossians 1:13-14).

Catholic (lower case “c”) beliefs, is that our baptism is our adoption to be a son/daughter of God.  Holy Communion gives us Jesus’ body and blood were we are bought back from sin and Satan’s domain again and again.  Cited: “if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves” (1 John 1:8-10).  Plus, we receive God’s forgiveness and sing praises with the Heavenly Hosts.  Holy! Holy! Holy!  Praise the Lord!

To show what a person would be like if they walk away from God. Also since Satan was so close to God we can see everyone can fall away from serving God. Satan minister to God daily and still fell away and we can too.

+++

1. We can never say that he doesn't exist, having received so much coverage.

2.  The enemy is arrogant and clever at somehow gaining exposure at the expense of others.

3. To have such a large exposure has to mean that whatever is learned about him must be important to God.

REPONSES TO REVIVAL ESSAY

People used to ask the chaplain at Bryan to pray for revival quite often.  My question (internally thought) was:  if revival hit the compound, would people be able and/or willing to walk in their newness of life given their circumstances.

People pray for the good old days not realizing that the good ole days for some was not the good ole days for many others.  I believe what God's Word says in Philippians 3:13 about forgetting those things behind me.

Instead of praying for Republicanism or any other political party, I ask for pure Christianity, which has absolutely nothing to do with politics. It's about being clean and pure in heart...enough to truly love one another just because it's a command from God.  I ask for untainted wisdom that comes from directly from God and not our emotions.  This type of wisdom provokes honesty and integrity at a level that requires diligence, patience, perseverance and the self control it takes to do what is right by God's standards.

Revival in the heart of just one person CAN always makes a difference.   The Word says in Deuteronomy 32:30 that two can put ten  thousand to flight. So, when true revival comes, I pray for the actions and behaviors in those affected that can be so transparent, that it causes immediate transformation for many others.

DEPENDFABILITY

 DEPENDABILITY

1Corinthians 4:1-2 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. [Heb.3:5]

2Corinthians 5:11-19 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Comforting verses God provides aplenty. And they are wonderfully reassuring. But let us beware of an unsuitable reliance on them to the detriment of our assigned position as His servants; Servants dependably faithful.

REVIVAL?

REVIVAL!

I am seeing more and more requests for prayer for our country. Few are specific as to what for; The good old days? Republicanism? Back to the future? ????

Assuming the standard is to pray to God for change for the better, I ask for a better what? Maybe a Romans 12:12-3 reversal of life in these disunited states of America?

“Revival” now not common to Christian or non-Christian thought, today I share a Biblical based GotQuestions.org essay to hopefully provoke us in body, soul, and spirit.  EBB4

What is Christian revival?

Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer. It encompasses the resurfacing of a love for God, an appreciation of God’s holiness, a passion for His Word and His church, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness. Revival invigorates and sometimes deepens a believer’s faith, opening his or her eyes to the truth in a fresh, new way. It generally involves the connotation of a fresh start with a clean slate, marking a new beginning of a life lived in obedience to God. Revival breaks the charm and power of the world, which blinds the eyes of men, and generates both the will and power to live in the world but not of the world.

In the USA, the first revival, also called the First Great Awakening, produced an upsurge of devotion among Protestants in the 1730s and 1740s, carving a permanent mark on American religion. It resulted from authoritative preaching that deeply moved the church members with a convicting awareness of personal guilt and the awesome nature of salvation through Christ. Breaking away from dry ritual and rote ceremony, the Great Awakening made Christianity intensely personal to the average person, as it should be, by creating a deep emotional need for relationship with Christ.

Revival, in many respects, replicates the believer’s experience when he or she is saved. It is initiated by a prompting of the Holy Spirit, creating an awareness of something missing or wrong in the believer’s life that can only be righted by God. In turn, the Christian must respond from the heart, acknowledging his or her need. Then, in a powerful way, the Holy Spirit draws back the veil the world has cast over the truth, allowing the believers to fully see themselves in comparison to God’s majesty and holiness. Obviously, such comparisons bring great humility, but also great awe of God and His truly amazing grace (Isaiah 6:5). Unlike the original conversion experience that brings about a new relationship to God, however, revival represents a restoration of fellowship with God, the relationship having been retained even though the believer had pulled away for a time.

God, through His Holy Spirit, calls us to revival in a number of situations. Christ’s letters to the seven churches reveal some circumstances that may necessitate revival. In the letter to Ephesus, Christ praised the church for their perseverance and discernment, but He stated that they had forsaken their first love (Revelation 2:4-5). Many times as the excitement of acceptance to Christ grows cold, we lose the zeal that we had at first. We become bogged down in the ritual, going through the motions, but we no longer experience the joy of serving Christ. Revival helps restore that first love and passion for Christ. Revelation 2:10-11 refers to the church at Smyrna, which was suffering intense persecution. The cares and worries of life can beat us down, leaving us emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted. Revival can lift us up to new hope and faith.

Revelation 2:14-16 talks about the problem of compromise with the world and incorporating worldly values into our belief systems. Revival helps us to rightly discern what values we should hold. Revelation 2:20-23 discusses the problem of tolerating false teaching in our churches. We need to examine the messages that we hear and compare them to the message of the Bible. Revival helps us to find the truth. Revelation 3:1-6 describes a dead church, a church that goes through the motions outwardly, but there is nothing underneath. Here is a picture of nominal Christianity, outwardly prosperous, busy with the externals of religious activity, but devoid of spiritual life and power. Revival helps to resuscitate spiritual life. In Revelation 3:11, we are further warned against complacency, a life that does not bear fruit. All of these scenarios call for revival.

The evidence of revival, a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon believers, is changed lives. Great movements toward righteousness, evangelism, and social justice occur. Believers are once again spending time in prayer and reading and obeying God’s Word. Believers begin to powerfully use their spiritual gifts. There is confession of sin and repentance.  GotQuestions,.org

COVERAGE

Coverage is applied in various ways, quite often in news reporting; as in a current event receiving a great deal of coverage.

Looking at the list of Bible references provided by Nave’s Topical Bible we readily see beginning in Genesis thru Revelation that Satan receives a lot of coverage in Scripture.

Leaving you to respond with the reasons you realize, I ask why?

SERVING GOD

WORK WILLINGLY

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Colossians 3:22-25  Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Have you ever worked with someone that never arrived even one minute early and was ready to leave several minutes before quitting time, and in between never did anything more than was absolutely required?

I have! And to say the least, it is frustrating!!

Ephesians 6:7 says to serve with good will
