THE TIT OF TECHNOLOGY

Hebrews 12:1-4 Therefore, having so vast a cloud of
witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and
especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance
the race set before us, 2 fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and
perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the
cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne
of God. 3 Think about the one who endured such hostility from sinners, so that
you may not become tired and give up. 4 In your struggle against sin you have
not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
I’ve no personal
memories of being a dependent baby, but have observed that weaning is usually
not easy, especially as it’s not our decision.
What in the world
got me to thinking about this, turning my pondering to Hebrews 12 . . . and
then led me to doing a bit of digging and finding 2Samuel 22:6 and 2Peter 2:20?
A grandson, having just turned 21, has made
some life changing decisions. One of which is he purchased a wrist watch. “So
what?!” you say?
He has done so
because he realized technology, mainly smartphone, is a merciless domitrix
demanding attention. So Ian, though still having his phone, has shifted it from
position of snare to mere tool used as needed . . . as opposed to needing it.
Getting in my
vehicle to go to birthday dinner, he placed his phone in glove compartment and
left it there until 4.5 hours later when he retrieved it when I dropped him off
at his home.
It’s easy for we
older folks to narrowly think alcohol, drugs, gambling et al are the real
life-controlling addictions in life, isn’t it?
