Proverbs
[ESV] 1:1-7 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of
Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to
receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to
give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—Let the wise
hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to
understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and
instruction.
Romans [ESV] 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal
of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is
good and acceptable and perfect.
There was a time
when describing a person as “God-fearing” was one of the finest things you
could say about their trustworthy character. Why has that description
disappeared from our language?
Is it the result
of loss of healthy unbiased Word-centered God-honoring thinking? I say yes.
Solomon wrote
that without reverential fear of God in my heart, mind, and function (deeds), I
am a silly foolish man. This I definitely believe as proven by personal
experience through trial and error.
