STUMBLING OVER A LEXUS
Sunday, March 22, 2015
Last evening at
an 8 year olds birthday party I became acquainted with 21 year old Alfredo. A
very insightful Automotive Technician that recognizes that cars often have more
to do with self-esteem than transportation. He told me an interesting tale on
the topic.
Recently a man
brought his Lexus to him for needed repair. The problem was readily obvious so
Alfredo ordered the parts and they were soon delivered while the customer
waited.
As Alfredo was
opening the shipping container the customer called out that he couldn’t put
those parts on his Lexus. The problem? The packaging was clearly marked “GENUINE
TOYOTA PARTS”.
Alfredo explained
that his Lexus was basically a Toyota model upgraded with higher grade upholstery,
increased sound noise insulation, better audio system, and a few other items.
Undeterred, the customer was insistent that he order genuine Lexus parts. “I am
not going to drive a Lexus with Toyota parts on it!”
Considering the man
has for years been driving a Toyota/Lexus crossbreed is hilarious.
Later, settling
abed for the night I thought of Proverbs 16:18 and then came “What have I been
stumbling over lately? What kind of car
drives me?”
