Deuteronomy
[MKJV] 5:33 You shall walk in all the ways which Jehovah your God has
commanded you so that you may live and that good may be to you, and you may
make your days longer in the land which you shall possess.
Psalm
1:1-4 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But
his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and
whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the
chaff which the wind driveth away.
1Corinthians [NLT] 10:13 The temptations in your
life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will
not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted,
he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1Thessalonians
[NLT] 5:14-24 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are
lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be
patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try
to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop
praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who
belong to Christ Jesus. Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at
prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay
away from every kind of evil. Paul’s Final Greetings Now may the God of peace
make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept
blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen,
for he who calls you is faithful.
Who has the
primary responsibility for my serviceable well-being, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit,
angels, others, or Edwin Bennett Bullock 4th?
But what is this
well-being I speak of? After many decades of Biblical study and meditation I
see it as optimum functioning condition of spirit, body, mind/emotions. The condition
of erring I cannot excuse by shifting responsibility to Satan, Adam and Eve,
peer pressure, societal milieu, past or current circumstance.
We first see this
truth in Genesis when God gives Adam the responsibility not just for flora and
fauna, but first and foremost for his own well-being, with God clearly explaining
what it takes to maintain healthy condition pleasing to Him. Adam decided to
reject the knowledge of God. Thinking he could expand his horizons, Adam
decided to believe Lucifer’s promise and death came to his once perfect spirit,
mind, emotions, body, and social situation (marriage, family, community);
deadly status that we both suffer and contribute to ever since.
God is
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent . . . and though I am not, yet it is I that
have the primary responsibility for my well-being. The responsibility is not
however without the support and guidance of my Father, Lord Jesus Christ, or
His Holy Spirit. It is responsibility with God’s stated guidance and in His
grace; authority, equipping, or empowerment; God provides all of this.
Psalm 32:8-9 [GW]
encapsulates this truth: The LORD says, "I will instruct you. I will teach
you the way that you should go. I will advise you as my eyes watch over you. Don't
be stubborn like a horse or mule. They need a bit and bridle in their mouth to
restrain them, or they will not come near you."
