THE BOOK SAYS

Mat
23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Does anyone know
when people in general, Christians in particular including a number of
preachers, teachers, and writers began saying “The Bible says…”? I began
thinking about this after seeing a midsummer ad for early order Christmas items
which led me to thinking about gnats and camels in church cultures;
demonstrated in USA brouhaha about “holidays” versus saying “Christmas”. (I say
the latter.)
God’s scribe, in
passing the Word to the Hebrews and us, did not say the Bible is quick, and
powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the
heart. (Heb.4:12)
Fact is that in the 66 books using multiple
penman God never once refers to His Word as Bible. The word is nowhere found in
God’s Word!
Admittedly, in the ears of believers, “Bible”
refers to God’s Truth. But what of unbelievers, those lost? (Jn.3:1-18) Comparatively
the size of “Merry Christmas” is a gnat to the camel of “the Bible says”. And
for those far from the Word not hearing capitals it is an even larger camel that
we stuff in their ears.
