ETERNAL SECURITY: THE FAITH PART

ETERNAL SECURITY: THE FAITH PART
Friday, July 28, 2017

•              Who alone saves? Jesus.

John [MKJV] 6:66-69 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

•              How is one saved? By faith.

Romans 3:27-28 Then where is the boasting? It is excluded. Through what law? Of works? No, but through the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the Law. (Also note James 1:2-4; 1Pet.1:8-9)
Romans 10:10-13 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Everyone believing on Him shall not be put to shame." For there is no difference both of Jew and of Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call on Him. For everyone, "whoever shall call on the name of the Lord will be saved."
James 2:23-24 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God." You see then how a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

•              What is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Also note Jn.3:5-18)
Strong: G4102 πίστις; pistis; pis'-tis; From G3982; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself: - assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.; G3982 πείθω; peithō; pi'-tho; A primary verb; to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexively or passively to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty): - agree, assure, believe, have confidence, be (wax) content, make friend, obey, persuade, trust, yield.

•              Is there any merit in faith on our part?

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

LEGACY: A FINAL ALTAR CALL GIVEN

LEGACY: A FINAL ALTAR CALL GIVEN
Thursday, July 27, 2017

Hebrews 9:27-27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Revelation chapter 21  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. … And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

One of the things I don’t particularly care for in my elder days is I read or receive 1 to 3 death notices per week; family, friends, acquaintances, coworkers, and classmates. Last week it was classmate Chunky Clouser and friend Doyle Gustafson plus an Omaha fellow employee. This morning is yet another announcement, high school classmate Dora Lucille Bosley, 11/28/1936 – 7/19/17.
The joke is that old people daily read the obituaries to see if their name is there yet. I do however have a more serious intent. First of all to see if someone I know passed so I may schedule going to their funeral or celebration of life. Secondly, with purpose to read of and learn from the lives of others. Thirdly, I suspect it has something to do with mortality consciousness.
Some I’ve read: “a good mother”, “lifelong avid team fan”, “enjoyed _______”, “dedicated volunteer”, “exceptional bowler”, “loved motorcycles” (This one at times ironic.), “dependable friend” and other brief life summarizing descriptions of such ilk.
And then this morning the exceptional “Together both Barbara and her husband, Walter, gave their hearts over to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and entered into a personal relationship of hope for eternity. They expressed love and concern for family members to have the same hope that only Jesus Christ can provide.”
When my or your obituary is read what will it say of us? Far more importantly than the local newspaper or an internet notice is what will be written “in the Lamb’s book of life”, or not? (Rev.21:17; Phil4:3; Rev.3:5; 1:8; 17:8; 20:12, 15; 22:19)

PS. I’m leaving this directive for my family to include in my obituary an appeal to the Acts 4:12 truth that Lord Jesus Christ as the one and only Redeemer.

TWO WORDS OF ASSURANCE

TWO WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Wednesday, July 26, 2017

1Corinthians 15:12-14 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
2Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen:
for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Hebrews 11:1-3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Apologetics; [uh-pol-uh-jet-iks] /əˌpɒl əˈdʒɛt ɪks/ noun, ( used with a singular verb) 1. the branch of theology concerned with the defense or proof of Christianity.
If nothing else in the way of eternal security apologetics, the Word living and written presents two unambiguous words: Eternal. Everlasting.
Read on, rest in His blessed assurance with peace and confidence.

Mat_19:16  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Mat_25:46  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Mar_3:29  But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of Mar_10:17, 30  And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? … But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Luk_10:25  And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Luk_18:18  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Joh_3:15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Joh_4:36  And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
Joh_5:39  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Joh_6:54, 68  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. … Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
Joh_10:28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh_12:25  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Joh_17:2-3  As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Act_13:48  And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
Rom_1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom_2:7  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Rom_5:21  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom_6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2Co_4:17-18  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2Co_5:1  For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Eph_3:11  According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
1Ti_6:12, 19  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
2Ti_2:10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Tit_1:2  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Tit_3:7  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Heb_5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Heb_6:2  Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Heb_9:12, 14-15  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. … How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
1Pe_5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
1Jn_1:2  (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1Jn_2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
1Jn_3:15  Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1Jn_5:11, 13, 20  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. … These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. … And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Jud_1:7, 21  Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. … Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Mat_18:8  Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
Mat_19:29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Luk_16:9  And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
Luk_18:30  Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
Joh_3:16, 36  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. … He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Joh_6:27, 40, 47  Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Joh_12:50  And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
Act_13:46  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Rom_6:22  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Rom_16:26  But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Gal_6:8  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

2Th_2:16  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
1Ti_1:16  Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1Ti_6:16  Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
Heb_13:20  Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
2Pe_1:11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Jud_1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Rev_14:6  And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

And finally for this morning: I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. (ESV 1Jn.5:13)

PS. Once again, please read today’s Scripture in context in your personal Bible and prayerfully consider. If need be, for the empowering assurance that God provides for His John 1:12 family. If you are already at peace, then please do share with others that are unsure.

… Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (Jn.6:68)

Eternal security is a doctrinal term some of you are not familiar with. For others it is doctrine debated or comforting. “eternal security” is not found in Scripture. Eternal security is found in Scripture. Beginning with this segment of series on the matter I hope those believing will be reassured and those not believing will gain blessed assurance eliminating any or all insecurity on their part.

PS. I am still getting email rejection notices. Using phone to inquire I’m told by those I asked that they are receiving. On top of this the problem is inconsistent. Sometimes when I “reply” to an individual query it is rejected, sometimes not. Sometimes sending test “new message” containing a single alphabet letter to an individual it is rejected, sometimes not.  Definitely a puzzle. Troubling shooting tangible machinery and tooling problems was much easier. To help me please type “rec’d” and hit reply to let me know you are receiving from me. Thank you. Ed

NOT A FEATHER DUSTER

NOT A FEATHER DUSTER
Monday, July 24, 2017

Romans [MKJV] 12:1-5  I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to every one who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think. But set your mind to be right-minded, even as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. For even as we have many members in one body, and all members do not have the same function, so we the many are one body in Christ, and each one members of one another.

Most of us in viewing or reading a story do identify with the successful surviving characters. It is natural to do so. Script writers and directors know this and do their utmost to facilitate this connecting for paying customers. The Word does not pander to our natural weakness.
Proverbs 27:17 is an observable example.
When reading the proverb what do we naturally picture? Gentle cultivation? An encouraging nudge? A comfortable dusting? Indeed these should be first mentoring methods responded to, but what exactly is the language of 27:17? Using e-Sword with Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries we get not a feather duster but hammer and anvil picture.

Iron [H1270; בּרזל; barzel; bar-zel' Perhaps from the root of H1269; iron (as cutting); by extension an iron implement: - (ax) head, iron.] sharpeneth [H2300; חדד; châdad; khaw-dad'  A primitive root; to be (causatively make) sharp or (figuratively) severe: - be fierce, sharpen.] iron [H1270]; so a man sharpeneth [H2300] the countenance of his friend.

In closing my shared morning meditation, I again turn to and consider the utmost importance of Romans 12:1-3 personal application for those “in Christ”.

Proverbs [CEV] 27:17 Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.

Kaitlan is one of my young friends. Our fellowship all started a few years ago with a question about a book she held. Actually, I see her as befriending me. And as unintended consequences go, our relationship is mutually beneficial in the manner of Proverbs 27:17.
  Spiritually most of all.
We contribute to and delight in each others’ maturation . . . most often without specific deliberate intent. This week is case-in-point when Kaitlan expressed a recent point of arrival in her life. Read on. Be blessed. Grow thereby.

“There is a BIG difference between a Christian guy, and a Man of God. A christian guy might say he loves you, but a man of God will love God more than you. A christian guy might text you Bible verses, or have a tattoo of them, but a man of God will live out those verses and have them written on his heart. A christian guy might go to church, but a man of God will see that his highest calling is to give Christ glory. A christian guy might "accidentally" compromise your virtue, but a man of God will protect it above all else. A christian guy might be super attractive, but a man of God will have a beautiful heart, regardless of his looks. A christian guy might take you out, but a man of God will hold you up before God in his prayers.”

CONCEPT VERSUS PRECEPT

CONCEPT VERSUS PRECEPT
Friday, July 21, 2017

Acts [ESV] 17:10-11 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
1Corinthians 2:11-14 For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. [2Cor.10:12]
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

I am sorrowful when some preachers and teachers refer to ideas in the Bible. God’s Word does not present notions or suggestions. God is “ I AM THAT I AM” (Ex.3:14) All-Wise Sovereign presenting His unambiguous principles for our refusal or agreement. A prime example is the truth of John 3:14-18.
Several times I’ve heard that Paul, as a New Testament (NT) writer, presents new ideas about God. He did not do so. Paul expounded the Old Testament (OT) truth for NT believer population.
An example is the belief that Paul endorses the idea that we are responsible for working our way to heaven, the puny pundits quoting Philippians 2:12. Hearing or reading such false idea requires that we are to work as did the noble Bereans examining and comparing Scripture. As synagogue Jews (This is not to say there were no gentiles in the church at Berea.) they were well schooled in the OT.  Consequently they would know as do we later students of the completed Word that the precept of the redeemed man being responsible for his after-actions is plain truth beginning in the first chapters of Genesis, and a continuing theme throughout the OT.
God blessed Paul as penman of 13, possibly 14, NT books. Read them all with sight of comparing Scripture to Scripture and we see that it is impossible to work our way to heaven. Read and compare all of God’s Word and we see no difference; heaven is not a reward, it is a gift. Truly, truly, gifts are not earned. Gifts are proffered. They are accepted, or not.

SEEKING ORDERS

SEEKING ORDERS TO ACT UPON
Thursday, July 20, 2017

Many decades ago under the prompting 2Timothy2:2 wise insightfulness of my earliest Christian elder mentors I properly chose Psalm 32:8-9 as my life verses. Because it’s so me! Of necessity I consider the verses often.
Though I twice responded to the draft call I was not needed. Consequently I never experienced that which other family members and friends did. I have however from earliest memory been blessed with the company of military men and women, some my close companions. One of the things I learned is the meaning of “general orders”; a basic list of directives for every member of the military. As followers of Lord Jesus Christ we too have general orders as laid out in His Word. This morning I’ve been thinking about two in particular.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (NLT MT.6:33)

… be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. Endure suffering [troubles] along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. (NLT 2Tim.2)

I invite you to print them out or jot down, reread and consider throughout this day. One of my personal meditation questions being “Am I presently being distracted by looking for specific directions at the expense of Gods general orders?”

LOVING OR LIKING?

LOVING OR LIKING GOD?

John 21 [MKJV] … Then when they broke fast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love [agapao] Me more than these? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love [phileo] You. He said to him, Feed My lambs. He said to him the second time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love [agapao] Me? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love [phileo] You. He said to him, Feed My sheep. He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love [phileo] Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him a third time, Do you love [phileo] Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things, You know that I love [phileo] You. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep. …

This morning I imagine the situation in John 21:
Adrift without Jesus’ leadership the men were at loss as to what to do with themselves. Peter, still a very much think-last-feel-first kind of action guy, declared he wasn’t going to sit around moping, he was going fishing!
Though working hard at the nets they caught no fish.
In the early morning light a stranger shouted from the shore suggested they fish differently. Why did they listen to him? Was it that in despair and despondency we grasp at straws even from those we don’t know?
They caught a lot of fish.
Peter then recognized the man was no stranger, He was Lord Jesus. In his normal loud voice he declared so. Peter didn’t wait for overloaded slow boat to take him ashore. He leaped into the sea and moved the 300 feet or so to shore. (It doesn’t say the mode. Did he walk as once before?)
Jesus invited them to breakfast as He had prepared enough food for all of them. Remembering the young men’s appetites after 3+ years with them, He told them to bring more fish from those they just caught.
Peter and the others noticed an odd thing as they were retrieving some fish from the net. Though it would typically tear under such stress, it had not done so.
At this point they wanted to hear Him say He was Jesus, but suffering a huge emotional shift from despair to delight, they did not do so.
Then while the others listened Jesus asked Peter if he selflessly loved Him more than his pals and the comradeship, brotherhood, of fishing together? Exactly how much do you love me Peter?
Peter responded saying he loved Jesus with great affection in regard to their close friendship.
Jesus again asked Peter if he loved Him without reservation as to what would result from selfless love?
Peter again responded as before; expressing his phileo for Jesus.
Why was Peter so grieved? Because Jesus quizzed him 3 times about his love for Him? Or was it because Peter could not yet honestly say “I agapao You Lord!”
That was then. This is now with question as to how many times must the Lord press us to get our attention? When He does so, is it to hassle us or to prepare us for the future with Him? Reading of Peter’s life I very much suspect the latter.

SANCTIFICATION

SANCTIFICATION
Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, cultivate your own salvation [soteria] with fear and trembling.

Sanctification is an absolutely integral to God’s gift of salvation, it being in 3 parts.
·         His: When we trust Him, because of His redeeming act of propitiation, we are sanctified.
·         Our responsibility: Once redeemed, an active place of discipleship of body, soul, and spirit. (1Cor.1:30; 1Thes.4:3-4; 2Thes.2:13; 1Pet.1:2)
·         Jointly; Complete conclusion.
  To further understand sanctification:

Strong defines: G38 ἁγιασμός; hagiasmos; hag-ee-as-mos'; From G37; properly purification, that is, (the state) purity; concretely (by Hebraism) a purifier: - holiness, sanctification.; G37; ἁγιά; ω; hagiazō; hag-ee-ad'-zo; From G40; to make holy, that is, (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: - hallow, be holy, sanctify.; G40 ἅγιος; hagios; hag'-ee-os; From ἅγος hagos (an awful thing) compare G53, [H2282]; sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated): - (most) holy (one, thing), saint.; G53 ἁγνός; hagnos; hag-nos'; From the same as G40; properly clean, that is, (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect: - chaste, clean, pure.

(In the above paragraph I am again teaching you something new in the way of Bible study; how you can move sequentially thru Strong’s Greek  designated by G] or Hebrew designated by H definitions.)

Scofield explainedIn the Old Testament the words consecration, dedication, sanctification, and holiness are various renderings of one Hebrew word, are used of persons and of things, and have an identical meaning, that is, set apart for God. Only when used of God himself (for example (Lev_11:45), or of the holy angels (for example (Dan_4:13) is any inward; (Lev_11:45); (Dan_4:13) moral quality necessarily implied. Doubtless a priest or other person set apart to the service of God, whose whole will and desire went with his setting apart, experienced progressively an inner detachment from evil; but that aspect is distinctively of the New Testament, not of the Old Testament (Mat_4:5).
  “Old Testament Righteousness. (Luk_2:25). New Testament Righteousness. (See Scofield) - (Rom_3:21), (Rom_10:10) Righteous living (1Jo_3:7) Self-righteousness (Rom_10:3).
holy Sanctification, holiness, Summary:
(1) In both Testaments, the same Hebrew and Greek words are rendered by the English works "sanctify" and "holy," in their various grammatical forms. The one uniform meaning is, "to set apart for God."
(2) In both Testaments, the words are used of "things" and "persons".
(3) When used of things, no moral quality is implied; they are sanctified or made holy because set apart for God.
(4) Sanctification, when used of persons, has a threefold meaning.
    (a) In position, believers are eternally set apart for God by redemption, "through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once" (Heb_10:9); (Heb_10:10). Positionally, therefore, believers are "saints" and "holy" from the moment of believing; (Phi_1:1); (Heb_3:1).
    (b) In experience, the believer is being sanctified by the work of the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures (Joh_17:17); (2Co_3:18); (Eph_5:25); (Eph_5:26); (1Th_5:23); (1Th_5:24).
    (c) In consummation, the believer's complete sanctification awaits the appearing of the Lord (Eph_5:27); (1Jo_3:2).

Scofield further explains elsewhere in a footnote that “Sanctification is through the [Holy] Spirit, not the law (Galatians 5:16-24).”
OK, so what does this mean to me today, tomorrow, yesterday, or . . . this past Wednesday?
After ordering roofing supplies at Menards we went to a cashier to pay the cost. When the cashier handed me the sales slip she noted the #1028 discount attachment and pointed me to the rack where the coupons were. At 3 dollars a bundle of shingles it meant redemption of almost $370. As I walked toward the rack daughter Renee’ peevishly declared “Dad, if you do that you’re despicable!”
Confused, I replied that the cashier told me it was OK.
After Renee’ clarified that Perry at the help desk had already subtracted the 3 dollar rebate, I had the choice between sanctification and the love of money. (1Tim.6:10)
Just how much does $370 buy in the way of distress . . . or subtract from functional sanctification?
And then there’s another question: Does God’s Holy Spirit speak through sanctified daughters?
  What do you think?

SALVATION IS SOTERIA

SALVATION IS SOTERIA
Monday, July 17, 2017
Romans [MKJV] 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation [soteria] to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."
Acts 4:10-12 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in this name does this man stand before you whole. This is the Stone which you builders have counted worthless, and He has become the Head of the Corner. And there is salvation in no other One; for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, cultivate your own salvation [sotria] with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
Ask Christians what the word “salvation” means. Summarizing what I usually hear in response: Going to heaven; Eternal life with God; Not going to hell; Saved from my sins. Forgiven. Redemption.
All wonderfully true definitions, but each alone incomplete and with effect of lacking knowing the true magnitude of God’s salvation that limits our sight and action; what we truly believe in our heart of hearts makes for how we live. When we don’t see salvation framed with God’s enormity we think smaller than possible, doing so setting boundary on our potential to worship God and support others in godliness. (Pr.23:7; Rom.12:1-3)
Salvation is not limited to “Going to heaven when I die or am raptured.”, but is frontier place; salvation is the initial position of commencement.
To aid you in gaining salvation knowledge, I share from Scofield’s study notes:
“Salvation” The Hebrew, and (Greek, "sōtēria", meaning "safety", "preservation", "healing", and "soundness"). Salvation is the great inclusive word of the Gospel, gathering into itself all the redemptive acts and processes: as justification, redemption, grace, propitiation, imputation, forgiveness, sanctification, and glorification. Salvation is in three tenses:
(1) The believer has been saved from the guilt and penalty of sin (Luk_7:50); (1Co_1:18); (2Co_2:15); (Eph_2:5); (Eph_2:8); (2Ti_1:9) and is safe.
(2) the believer is being saved from the habit and dominion of sin (Rom_6:14); (Phi_1:19); (Phi_2:12); (Phi_2:13); (2Th_2:13); (Rom_8:2); (Gal_2:19); (Gal_2:20); (2Co_3:18).
(3) The believer is to be saved in the sense of entire conformity to Christ. (Rom_13:11); (Heb_10:36); (1Pe_1:5); (1Jo_3:2).
Salvation is by grace through faith, is a free gift, and wholly without works; (Rom_3:27); (Rom_3:28); (Rom_4:1-8); (Rom_6:23); (Eph_2:8).
The divine order is: first, salvation, then, works; (Eph_2:9); (Eph_2:10); (Tit_3:5-8).
As ever is so in God’s service, having looked up the above references, read in context, and understanding soteria more fully we may sensibly expand our practice of Philippians 2:12, or opt to live framed small.

PIXEL OR PICTURE

PIXEL OR PICTURE
Sunday, July 16, 2017

Matthew chapter 16 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. [Mk.8:27-38; Lk.4:4-8; Phil. Chapter 3]

I read history, nonfiction and fiction. I do not however consider myself even an amateur historian. My motive is not to mentally compile facts and figures, but to gain insight on life past, active enduring current results and influence, and maybe a bit of glimpsing and thereby preparing for the future. I’ve held this attitude from earliest memory, consequently formal history classes were a love/hate matter for me. Details matter. This I will not argue, but I am interested in the big picture that shapes our thinking unto this day . . . and how as with Peter we may fleetingly see the big picture and yet suffer hindering limited vision as we focus on a pixel.
As I read and study God’s Word I pray for heightened view of life, death, and resurrection.

KNOCK KNOCK

KNOCK, KNOCK
Friday, July 14, 2017

Recently someone sent me the message “When trouble knocks, let Jesus answer the door.”
Ah, but who’s to say it is trouble? It could be Jesus knocking, recognition that could be troubling depending on how comfy we are behind the door.

OVERCOMING TRIBULATION

OVERCOMING TRIBULATION
Thursday, July 13, 2017

Proverbs [MKJV] 3:5-8 Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and depart from evil. Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.
Matthew [GW] 4:17 From then on, Jesus began to tell people, "Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near!" [Rom.12:1-3]
Matthew [MKJV] chapter 26 … He [Jesus] went a little further and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will. … He went away again the second time and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done. … [Jn.5:30]

As God Incarnate, Jesus suffered humanly. Christ being Omni, the complete *scope of His experience is incomprehensible to the human mind or experience. It is especially far beyond the mindset of the natural thinker (1Cor.2:14). And yet He overcame . . . and promised that we as followers trusting Him may do the same. (Jn.16:33)
Does this mean He guarantees we can overcome cancer et al? Or is Jesus promising that as He, in obedience to the Father, overcame life and death as He suffered it? Do we not see this in His life story? Have we not seen this in people we know? (Our extended family definitely saw this in our dear Ann as she physically suffered and died.)
God continues to provide. We individually continue to decide to trust and implement, or not.

*As we mature we see more. Consider that Jesus as God Incarnate (Jn.1:1) fully saw all. We through maturation may see wheels turning within wheels. God sees the machinations of all hearts at all times. (Jn.1:1; Heb.4:12: in both verses “logos”)

ADVERSITY DEFINED BY O WORDS

ADVERSITY DEFINED BY O WORDS
Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Isaiah 55:6-9 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Matthew [GW] 4:17 From then on, Jesus began to tell people, "Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near!"

Our faith should never stand in the wisdom of man, but the power of God. (1Cor.2:5)
Romans 12:1-3 instructs us to think and act according to God’s Way. Doing so is authentic worship. In Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth he addresses this issue of thinking apart from the “mind of Christ”.
In mature understanding and applying God’s Word, adversity will not commonly be seen as calamity, catastrophe, tragedy . . . disastrous. Such rigid framing of events, conditions, and circumstances is apart from the mind of Christ.
Jesus told His followers they would suffer adversity, explaining “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.“ Lord Jesus Christ tells His followers that adversity is opportunity to overcome. He manifested this. This truth goes against ungodly natural instincts reinforced by a lifetime of familial education. Authentic worship pleasing God is not natural! (1Cor.2:12-16)

ADVERSITY IN PERSPECTIVE

ADVERSITY IN PERSPECTIVE
Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Psalm 25:1-4 [A Psalm of David.] To You, O Jehovah, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; do not let me be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none who wait on You be ashamed; let them be ashamed who sin without cause. Make me know Your ways, O Jehovah; teach me Your paths.
Romans 8:14-18 [Paul explaining] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba, Father! The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. And if we are children, then we are heirs; heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; so that if we suffer with Him, we may also be glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the coming glory to be revealed in us.

The worldview of adversity (difficulties, hardships, danger, misfortune, harsh conditions) is typically negative, in one of or set of several ways.
·         As calamity, catastrophe, tragedy . . . disastrous.
·         UGH! Why me??!!
·         Always about me.
·         Puzzling.
·         Something other individuals and groups deserve.
·         Sorrowfully when happening to loved ones . . . or those we idolize.
·         Gleefully when happening to enemies or those we’re not exactly fond of.
·         Always stressful.
·         Nonchalant, detached, indifferent, unflappable: “Whatever.” “S___ happens.”
·         If not stressed by, person is considered weird
·         As opposition.
·         Always coming in threes. (My familial education from Grandmother McGee.)
·         Always from Satan.
·         Always as chastening from God.
·         Investing considerable anxiety as to whether from Satan, or God.
·         Destructive.
·         Highlighting manner or environment needing more law and regulation.
·         Ruination.
·         The common rule.
·         A fun challenge to be met and overcome.
·         A number of other gloomy points that I’m sure others can add. (Please do!)
My negative viewpoints changed wonderfully in and by God’s maturation through Romans 12:1-3 rethinking as the result of reading, studying, and application of His Word.
I think the first lessons were understanding and accepting that all adversity as not aimed at me. God makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Mt.5:45) This includes warm delightful sunshine on a cold day, and instances of scorching heat while working on broken hot machinery in shade-less dry dusty field. And then there are rain storms that I didn’t dance in but hunkered down in boat while on the Chesapeake Bay.
Next came accepting the truth that if I’m going to grow it will not happen on flowery beds of ease or mirror smooth waters; my Lord’s training grounds often include adversity.
How else shall we ever meet our appointment to conform to the image of Christ? (Rom.8:13-29; 12:1-3)

Please know this: Conforming to worldly wrong-headed perspective is the more serious adversity.   EBB4 (March 3, 2011)
