NOT A FEATHER DUSTER

Romans [MKJV] 12:1-5 I beseech you therefore,
brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, pleasing to God, which is your
reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of
God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to every one who is among you,
not to think of himself more highly than
he ought to think. But set your mind to be right-minded, even as God has dealt
to every man the measure of faith. For even as we have many members in one
body, and all members do not have the same function, so we the many are one
body in Christ, and each one members of one another.
Most of us in
viewing or reading a story do identify with the successful surviving
characters. It is natural to do so. Script writers and directors know this and
do their utmost to facilitate this connecting for paying customers. The Word
does not pander to our natural weakness.
Proverbs 27:17 is
an observable example.
When reading the
proverb what do we naturally picture? Gentle cultivation? An encouraging nudge?
A comfortable dusting? Indeed these should be first mentoring methods responded
to, but what exactly is the language of 27:17? Using e-Sword with Strong’s
Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries we get not a feather duster but hammer and anvil
picture.
Iron [H1270; בּרזל;
barzel; bar-zel' Perhaps from the root of H1269; iron (as cutting); by
extension an iron implement: - (ax) head, iron.] sharpeneth [H2300; חדד; châdad; khaw-dad' A
primitive root; to be (causatively make) sharp or
(figuratively) severe: - be fierce, sharpen.] iron [H1270]; so a man sharpeneth
[H2300] the countenance of his friend.
In closing my shared
morning meditation, I again turn to and consider the utmost importance of
Romans 12:1-3 personal application for those “in Christ”.
