DISTANCING

Psalm 119:105,
133 [NLT] Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and
a light for my path. … Guide my
steps by your word, so I will not be
overcome by evil.
Mark 13:31
[Jesus declared] Heaven and earth will disappear,
but my words will never disappear.
2Timothy3:16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful
to teach us what is true and to make us
realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and
teaches us to do what is
right. God uses it
to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
1Peter1:2-21
Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever
came from the prophet’s
own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets
were moved by the Holy Spirit,
and they spoke from God.
“Yea, hath God
said”? (Gen.3:1)
Once again today
I read “The Bible teaches us …” This practice troubles my heart as doing so
distances from the author, Jehovah God Almighty, consigning His Word to the
shelf of books on guidance. Actually it’s an odd practice. When citing, isn’t
credit typically given to the author? Why then “The Bible says …”?
At 176 verses Psalm
119 is the longest book in God’s Word. Imagine quoting Psalm 119 citing “Bible”
instead of “the Law of Jehovah.”, “His
testimonies”, “His ways.”, “Your Commandments”, “Your Precepts!”, “Your
righteous judgments.”, “Your Word.”, “Your
mouth.”, “Your testimonies,”, “Your
ways.”, “Your Law.”, “Your judgments”, “Your wonderful works.”, “Your way”, “the
Word of truth”, “the Word of Your righteousness.”
