FIRST OF ALL

Psalm 1:1-6 Blessed is the man who walks not in the
counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat
of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he
meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that
yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he
does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind
drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners
in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the
righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Luke 11:34-35 Your eye is the lamp
of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but
when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the
light in you be darkness.
The lens thru
which we see either distorts or clarifies our worldview; self, family, friends,
neighbors, nation, the world, occupation, vocation, abilities, assets . . .
everything. If our lens is not the Word of God then we see according to the
counsel of the ungodly. Jesus encouraged bona fide single sourcing and
investment. (Mt.5:48; 6:19-23; Lk.11:34-35) James stated a major chaotic result
of olio thinking. (Jam.1:8)
How we define base-line
sanity is lens determining, which is why I pondered and wrote on the question
in December. (How does our view of sanity affect our attitude toward others?)
Here’s another
lens exercise: 1. Which is older, Judaism or Christianity? 2. What personal
and/or cultural difference does my answer make?
I await your
responses and will publish them in a few days.
