A REVOLUTIONARY THOUGHT

Romans [ESV] 12:1-2; 13-1-2 I appeal to you therefore,
brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice,
holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing
you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and
perfect. . . . Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For
there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been
instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God
has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. [Reminder: In original
texts there were no chapter designations.]
Once again I’ve something I’m reluctant to put
in writing. Fact is I’d rather not think about it.
Yesterday we of
USA persuasion celebrated gloriously. God bless America!
But what of
Jehovah God Almighty and our revolution, was it in wanting to please Him that
colonials revolted against taxation without representation? Did God applaud the
Boston Tea Party? And then there’s the additional bit of our now assuming we today
would have been supporters of separation from Britain. Down with the king!
As Christians we
are to look to God and His Word, the Bible, as our guide in thinking, attitude,
and actions. What does God’s Word say that’s applicable to revolutionary being?
Is my revolting
consideration a threat to American pie?

PS. For further consideration I suggest reviewing Albert
Barnes Notes on the Bible on Romans 13:1. If interested, but not available in
your resources, just ask and I’ll provide.
