TAKING A SECOND LOOK AT EVE

TAKING A SECOND LOOK AT EVE

Genesis [NLT] 1:26-31 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” 29 Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. 30 And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” And that is what happened. 31 Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!

Tom Beatty calls me a meddler. From one meddler to another, “Thank you Tom!”
Today I’m primarily meddling with men in need, in particular the need to take a second look at Eve.
This morning’s first article read was from mislaid now-uncovered ANSWERS magazine, April-June 2011. On pages 33-34 *Georgia Purdom wrote “Eve’s Legacy – Hope Amid Despair”, I believe an excellent essay to read under the directive of Romans 12:1-3.
Dr. Purdom states “The first woman carried a lot on her shoulders – by encouraging her husband to rebel against God, she helped bring suffering and ruin upon her children and all their descendants. Yet she found hope in the same promised Seed that we all look to.
I’ve always been intrigued by Eve. She was the original “bad girl” of the Bible, and most people think of her legacy as one of sin and despair for all mankind. She has another legacy, however, one of hope in her Seed, the Jewish Messia, Jesus Christ. Understanding Eve and how God wiorked in and through her gives us hope and teaches us the importance of looking to Christ.
… Eve was created in God’s image just like Adam (Genesis 1:27). She was his equal, yet she had a different role than her husband. God made Eve to be a “helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:18)”
Now, for those men unafraid to have their party-line thinking challenged further, go to http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/am/v6/n2/eve-legacy and read the rest of the article. Oh, and judging by my lifelong experience with some Eves, you too should take a thoughtful read thereof.
