Exodus 15:16

I try to always think Biblically. This week’s medical conference set me to doing so again: At the end of 1.5 hour session, emulating godliness my doctor said he provided education and meds, but the rest is my responsibility.

Reliance is matter centered in confidence; trust connected with respect.

Ah, but who is commonly the responsible party, God, or man? Are we to rely on God to miraculously physically fix and/or deliver us at all times in every instance? Or is the responsibility primarily on our shoulders?

I awoke this morning thinking about this again, especially pertaining to its association with relationship to and fellowship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit . . . and family, friends, community.

Of course we can and should rely on Him for provision. However, for the most part, realizing His provision depends on our reliance on His provision. Sound like double-talk? It isn’t.

God’s earliest recorded provision for man is exemplified in Genesis: Jehovah created provision but it was Adam’s responsibility to utilize that which God did make available. (Gen.1:28; 2:15-17) Adam was responsible for controlling Eden. After Adam’ deciding to not rely on God’s provision, this control (KJV “dominion”) was not terminated for Adam and thereafter continues as our responsibility. (Gen.1:28; 9:1) It did however become a sweaty laborious chore, and continues as such.

God’s Word is filled with wisdom that is our responsibility to utilize. It is serious mistake to think of God as life raft or spare tire available in poorly maintained vehicle.

God can deliver. At times He does so. But most often it is our responsibility. Though definitely with me (Heb.13:5c), He will not be tending my garden today. Grandson Ian and I will be hoeing, pulling weeds, mulching, tying up tomato plants …

Neither will He barricade my street to prevent the Weinermobile from delivering yummy sausages to my table.  EBB4
