TAKING GOD AT HIS WORD - OR NOT

TAKING GOD AT HIS WORD – OR NOT

On Thursday, July 10, 2014 I published the following , asked for your reactions, and promised to identify the author and publish your responses.

/ˈhɒmənɪd/ Show Spelled [hom-uh-nid] Show IPA noun Anthropology .

any of the modern or extinct bipedal primates of the family Hominidae, including all species of the genera Homo  and Australopithecus.

Also, homonid, ho·min·i·

A well known and respected contemporary preacher, academic, and writer wrote the following.

“proposal: that just as God chose Israel from the rest of humankind for a special, strange, demanding vocation, so perhaps what Genesis is telling us is that God chose one pair from the rest of early hominids for a special, strange, demanding vocation. This pair (call them Adam and Eve if you like) were to be the representatives of the whole human race, the ones in whom God’s purpose to make the whole world a place of delight and joy and order, eventually colonizing the whole creation, was to be taken forward.”

The identity of the writer of the above proclamation is N. T. “Tom” Wright. For a brief bio on the man, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright  For further information click on links in the article, or simply web search “N. T. Wright”. If interested in essay(s) by Adrian Warnock on John Piper challenging N. T. Wright, go to http://www.patheos.com/blogs/adrianwarnock/2007/11/john-piper-challenges-n-t-wright-on/

Comments received in response to Wright’s word were surprisingly few, quite brief, and could pretty much be summed up under heading Wright is Wrong.

There were however two longer comments.

Jim (MD) wrote “An interesting thought, but WITHOUT any scriptural basis/verification or validation. This "respected contemporary preacher" is not respected by me. Jim“

Clyde “Seede” Welch contributed “My thoughts would be that the one who made this statement is an evolutionist or a borderline evolutionist who should not be a representative of Christianity.

The garden Adam (man) was created in the image and likeness of the Father God while the earlier hominids were creatures of their intended creations and not in the image or likeness of the Creator.

That is if you accept the idea of modern science that Adam was considered a hominid in the first place.  I do not accept that premise at all.

God’s purpose was not to make this world a place of delight forever.  The world was good at its inception but not intended to remain good nor to last forever.  God does not make mistakes nor is He double minded.

The primary purpose of Jesus was to establish His new covenant and kingdom of heaven (New Jerusalem) and not to make this world or terrestrial universe into a garden of delight. There’s nothing scriptural in that teaching at all.

God Bless.

Seede”

And as for me, I too do disagree.  EBB4
