THE WORK OF THANKSGIVING

Philippians
[ESV] 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say,
rejoice. Let your reasonableness [gentle patient moderation] be known to
everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1Thessalonians
[ESV] 5:16-19 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give
thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for
you. Do not quench the Spirit.
"I do recommend and assign
Thursday ... next to be devoted by the People of these States to
the service of that great and
glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that
was, that is, or that will
be." --George Washington
(1789)
A mordant
acquaintance opines that some people lacking thanksgiving are so because it’s
just too much work. He’s not speaking of the labor of by hand preparing a
relish tray . . . which just happens to be dear old Dad’s assignment from
eldest Committee member this year.
What has happened
to my 3 daughters? They were such nice people. Whatever happened to simply
providing a gallon of delicious cole slaw from the supermarket?!
