RESTRAINTS GONE

Matthew 6:22-23 The
light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye
be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole
body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be
darkness, how great is that darkness!
Though we may
think ourselves a nation of angels we must not think we are other what all men
have been since the fall of man; Sinful and in need of redemption. (Rom.3:10,
23; 5:12)
We are affected
of and/or effected by restraints, or not; restraint is primarily individual,
individuals make for corporate restraint, whether community or nation.
As God says and
history shows, when restraints are gone acts of goodness are no longer the
norm, but are the exception. If the departure of restraints includes sanction
of ungodliness, even unto the rewarding of evil, life becomes plagued with the
horrendous.
There are many
historical examples of this. Just a few: Cain killing brother Abel, the
Crusades with its absolutions, the Inquisitions, Armenian genocide, the rape of
Nanking, Jewish pogroms throughout the ages, Nazism’s Holocaust, historical
slavery past and present, Civil Wars (If ever an oxymoron, this is it.), Wounded
Knee, worldwide trafficking of girls, sweat shops ….
But man has not yet
seen the worst to come!
There is to be a
great tribulation when large masses of people will live without restraint.
And while mankind
waits for this Great Tribulation there will continue to be local and national
miseries. I don’t know, but I do wonder what with the rising resentments, will
the USA again suffer misery in the remaining interim? The answer really depends
on how many of us live by godly restraint, doesn’t
it? EBB4
