FISHY FEELINGS

Ephesians [GW] 3:12 We can go to God with bold confidence
through faith in Christ.
I’m thankful that
one of the important things my early mentors explained is that my feelings
should never be the basis for trust in God. (Peter and company is prime
example. Mk.14:29-31)
Do you ever feel
like the Lord is not with you? I had bouts of this distracting spiritual subtraction
the first few weeks after I personally trusted Jesus is Redeemer. Some of you
may suffer this distraction from time to time, often, or even at this moment. (I
use “subtraction” and “distraction” because that is exactly what doubting His
presence does to us; weakening us, getting our mind off salvation’s service.
Phil.2:12b)
Feelings are
fickle, including moodiness, hormonal, cloudy and foggy, cold, hot, lukewarm. Feeling at a loss of closeness can be result
of codependency, measuring our feelings by or against the emotions and/or
fellowship situation of others. (Phil.2:4) Picture a stoical personality in the
midst of sanguine extroverts.
Though feelings
may align with facts, feelings are frequently contrary to facts.
Two facts
pertinent to today’s topic: The Word of God is Truth and Jesus said He never
leaves nor forsakes us. (Jn.17:17; Josh.1:5; Heb.13:5-6)
Though trusting
Him as Redeemer, due to overly relating to adverse circumstance we may feel
like Jesus is not with us, but the fact is, He is always, everywhere, now and
eternally with us.
Trust His Truth
and the feeling of distracting discontentment will be replaced by the traction
(i.e. gripping power) of contentment. (Phil.4:11-13)
