INSULATED BY CHEESE?
Monday, July 09, 2018
Matthew [MKJV] 9:35-38 And Jesus went about all the
cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of
the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But
seeing the crowds, He was moved with compassion on them, because they were
tired and scattered like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His
disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Therefore
pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will send out laborers into His
harvest.
Statistics can
reveal contrasts. That Venezuela’s estimated annual inflation rate in late June
is 41,838% and on the same page I read USA farmers set a new record of 1.39
billion pounds of surplus cheese in storage obviously reflects disparity. Less
obvious is the truth that we, at least for the moment, are insulated by an
abundance of low cost cheese.
How easy is it to
not feel and/or act upon compassion when the obvious is before us? Very . . .
if we are not attentive to God’s Word and the urging of His Holy Spirit. Secure
in His provision we may become insular to seeing or thinking of the needs of
others near or far.
Love God, love
people; worship and community above and beyond our cheese.
PS. Today’s stats are from WORLD magazine, July 2018,
