Philippians 4:13
is not the only verse that is sometimes applied out of context. (Paul speaking of
his conclusion, not mystical mantra.) Ephesians 6:12 is another that I’ve heard
with degree of personal excusably applied in a “You can’t fight City Hall.” way.
Which is not at all what it is saying or implying.
Reading 6:12 in
surrounding context we see that we are responsible for attitude and action . .
. and that God provides equipping to fulfill said accountability in the way
pleasing, honoring and glorify, to Him; Kingdom service this side of heaven
that is in accord with our John 1:12 privilege as His adopted children – “… with
fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; not with
eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of
God from the heart, with good will doing service as to the Lord and not to men (knowing
that whatever good thing he does, he shall receive the same from the Lord,
whether he is a slave or a freeman). And masters, do the same things to them,
forbearing threatening, knowing that your Master also is in Heaven. There is no
respect of persons with Him. Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in
the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able
to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (MKJV 6:5-11. Encourage reading and
pondering entire context.)
