CONSIDERABLE PROOF

CONSIDERABLE PROOF

Isaiah 40:6-8 The voice said, Cry! And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the beauty of it is as the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, because the Spirit of Jehovah blows on it; surely the people is grass. The grass withers, the flower fades; but the Word of our God shall stand forever.

All of those that accept Jesus do not walk the same steps getting to the point of agreeing with God. For some, the turning point it is being overwhelmed with His love. (I well remember the impact of Romans 5:8 the first time I read the startling truth.) For others it is desperation as they hit bottom. For yet others they realized that all they’ve tried in their own wit and strength, but none gave peace, freedom, or satisfaction. For some it is terror of God’s judgment. I trusted Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior after diecast foundry coworker Bud Bond laid out considerable proof in response to my “I’ve been listening to you for 6 weeks. For me it comes down to is the Bible what it claims to be, or not?!!”
The next day at work Bud handed me a copy of 5.25” X 7.50” thirty two page booklet (Think in the style of Cliff’s Notes.) TEN REASONS WHY I BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD, by William. W. Orr. (ISBN 0-88207-288-9)
The sections include It’s Reasonable, Its Amazing Composition, Its Unique Completeness, Its Unparalleled Teachings, Its Perennial Appeal, Its Scientific Accuracy, Its Fulfilled Prophecy, Its Miraculous Preservation, Its Transforming Power, and Its Christfulness. Dr. Orr’s words end with A Personal Message, including “It is not enough that you should be persuaded that the Bible is the Word of God. You must not stop there. Remember, it is God’s Word to you, . . . individually, personally. It has message to your heart that is inexpressibly important.”
I thoughtfully read and searched out the Scripture references. At 12:30am driving home from work in our 59’ black Beetle I lifted my foot off the gas drifting downhill past the Gunpowder Inn (Think Dewdrop Inn.). Looking into the pitch dark night, I said “Lord, I don’t understand all this but want what you have for me. I trust Jesus.”
Arriving home I told Ann (Already a believer.). We went to bed. The next morning I awoke to a new mind and heart. Life has never been the same since.
Though men may reject, no man hides from the Word, for “… the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (MKJV Heb.4:12-13)
The Word says “… "Be holy, for I [God] am holy." And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to the work of each one, pass the time of your earthly residence in fear, knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot; indeed having been foreknown before the foundation of the world, but revealed in the last times for you, those believing in God through Him, He who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God. Purifying your souls in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brothers, love one another fervently out of a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living Word of God, and abiding forever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of men as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls out, but the Word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the Word preached as gospel to you.” (MKJV 1Pet.1:16-25)
