Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Dear fellow travelers,
Some of you are
familiar with, have done, and may now be doing word studies, some others not so.
Word studies are definitely Christ honoring, pleasing to God, and beneficial to
we students of the Word. For those not familiar with the practice, a brief
explanation and example:
Using a Bible
dictionary and concordance, focus on one word. For example “Word”, Logos, referred
to in numerous places in Scripture.
Now knowing the
meaning being the eternal person of Christ and His everlasting written word we
next utilize concordance as a study aid.
In deference to those
non-retired DT’rs I won’t give you a whole Bible multipage study, but will
present John’s 6 mentions in 4 verses.
John
1:1 In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Gen.1:1)
John
1:14 And the Word was made
flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only
begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1John
1:1 That which was from the
beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have
looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Revelation
19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and
his name is called The Word of God.
Next look up each
of the above references in your favorite translation and thoughtfully consider what
is being said, how it pertains to life now and forever, and to you in
particular.
Now edified by
God’s truth (“truth”, another word study?), ours is decision and/or action in
response to the knowledge gained as we sincerely desire and work to serve Him
all our days,
EBB4
