THINKING AND ACTING GREATLY PLEASING TO GOD

Romans 12:1-3 [NLT] And so, dear
brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of
all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he
will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the
behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person
by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you,
which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and
authority God has given me [Apostle Paul], I give each of you this warning:
Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of
yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Pastor Scott,
teaching our temporarily combined classes Sunday, presented 3 “Greats” to think
and act out. Three directives from the Word for living in loving others inside
and outside of the congregation:
THE GREAT COMMANDMENT – When the crowds heard him
[Jesus], they were astounded at his teaching. But when the Pharisees heard
that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to
question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap
him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most
important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your
mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the
prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Mt.22:33-40)
THE GREAT COMPASSION – [Jesus explained] “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who
are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the
creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was
thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into
your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was
sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we
ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you
clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison
and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the
truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me!’ “Then the King
will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into
the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and
you didn’t give me a drink. I
was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you
didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’ “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry
or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’ “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused
to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help
me.’ “And they will go away into eternal
punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.” (Mt.25:34-46)
THE GREAT COMMISSION – Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain
where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but
some of them doubted! Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven
and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the
commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to
the end of the age.” (Mt.28:16-20)
Finally . . . if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (KJV Phil.4:8)
