Jesus said to them, What words are these that you have with one another as you walk … (Lk.24:17)
“The
Breakfast Club is a
1985 American coming-of-age comedy-drama
film written, produced, and directed by John Hughes and starring Emilio
Estevez, Paul Gleason, Anthony Michael Hall, John
Kapelos, Judd Nelson, Molly
Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. The storyline follows five teenagers, each
a member of a different high school clique, who spend
a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that
they are all more than their respective stereotypes,
while facing a villainous principal.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Breakfast_Club
Did you like THE
BREAKFAST CLUB? I did. I do. It is one of the few films I’ve watched more than
once. It’s all about attitudes in the midst of common cause. Then there’s the
factor that it appeals to my old nature.
The entire tale
plays out in a very small physical area, has absolutely no spectacular special
effects, chases, stunts or wrecks. What it does have is loads and loads of
conversation
It is said that
if remade today it will be a silent film picturing 5 teens staring at their
cell phones; representative of many teens and adults today lacking conversation
that includes facial expression, body language, tenor and inflection.
What got me
thinking about this?
A conversational friend
brought up the topic of films we have enjoyed, movies that made us think beyond
a entertainment surface view. Then there was “What do favored movies say about
you?” plus a few more stimulating inquiries arose.
There was agreeable laughter, and disagreeable conflict. We communicated.
As I later
thought about the favored old movie and latter day discussion I pictured the
apostles’ every-day all-day sans gadgets breakfast club with Jesus.
As for today’s
menu?
