OF GOD
(Theism)
I. Existence of God
- God has shown Himself in nature (Romans 1:20).
- God has shown Himself in the Bible (John 5:39).
II. Attributes of God
- God is Spirit (John 4:24; I Timothy 6:16).
- God is eternal (Psalm 90:2; I Timothy 1:17).
- God is everywhere (omnipresent) (I Kings 8:27; Psalm
139:7-10).
- God is all-knowing (omniscient) (Job 42:2; Psalm
94:11).
- God is all-powerful (omnipotent) (Jeremiah 32:27;
Matthew 19:26).
- God is unchanging (immutable) (Malachi 3:6; James
1:17).
- God is faithful (I Corinthians 1:9; II Timothy 2:13).
- God is holy (Isaiah 6:3; 1 Peter 1:16).
- God is righteous (Psalm 116:5; 145:17).
- God is merciful (Psalm 86:15; 103:8).
- God is love (John 3:16; I John 4:8).
III. Nature of God
- God is one being or essence.
1.
God’s being is
not divided: God is one. (There is no disunity.) (Deuteronomy 6:4)
2.
God’s being is
not multiplied: God is the only one. (There are no other gods.) (Deuteronomy
4:35; I Timothy 2:5)
- God is three persons.
1.
The Father,
Son, and Spirit are eternally distinct (John 15:26; 17:22; Galatians 4:6).
2.
The Father,
Son, and Spirit are recognized as God.
a.
The Father is
God (John 6:27; I Peter 1:2).
b.
The Son is God
(Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8).
c.
The Spirit is
God (Acts 5:3, 4; I Corinthians 3:16)
3.
The Father,
Son, and Spirit possess attributes of Deity.

- Practical points
1.
The human mind
cannot understand fully the fact that God is one being and yet three persons.
The human mind can recognize some
teachings on the nature of God to be false.
