IDOLATRY

Matthew 6 [ESV], Jesus explained …. "Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. … where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1John 3:1-21
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. By
this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for
whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows
everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence
before God;
How we define and
then recognize and deal with idolatry has much to do with maturation or the
hindrance thereof. Before trusting Jesus at age 27 I thought idolatery was all
about statuary, paintings, icons, bones and such. Blessedly my mentors showed
me that idolatry may include symbols, but that most importantly it always is
the matter of our heart attitude. Idolatry is the lack of spiritual growth and
the further hindrance thereof. Discovering the truth of the matter left me mindful
that by our inherent Adamic nature you and I are drawn to idolatry, for it is
centered in self-esteem, ego; whereas true worship is centered in Biblical humility
. . . the meekness of the Beatitudes. Without which we lack godly confidence. Sans
godly confidence we worship idols much admired and cherished outside of the Kingdom
of God.
The fact is that
claiming or denying religion we do worship. Doing so or thinking we abstain
from is not the question. Who? or what? is the query ever before us.

For further contemplation:
1Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of
witchcraft, and stubbornness is as
iniquity and idolatry.
Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee
from being king.
Acts 17:16
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him,
when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
1Corinthians 10:14
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft,
hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Colossians
3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon
the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence,
and covetousness, which is idolatry:
A question for consideration:
Beyond what is revealed in Scripture, is seeking to know the specific will of
God in our personal life a pagan practice? An idolatrous practice like reading
goats’ guts?
