CHOOSING VICTIMIZATION

Two questions
posed to me: How is Satan successful? Why did Satan pick Eve to tempt instead
of Adam?
I think answering
the first question answers the second.
“Be humbled by
God's power so that when the right time comes he will honor you. Turn all your
anxiety over to God because he cares for you. Keep your mind clear, and be
alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion as he
looks for someone to devour. Be firm in
the faith and resist him, knowing that other believers throughout the world are
going through the same kind of suffering.” (GW 1Pet.5:6-9)
Lions are
considered great hunters. Lions look for those outside of the protection of
their group; the inattentive laggers. Satan is no different, for he cannot
victimize those well-protected in close fellowship in the John 1:12 family of
God.
We may ask “But
what of Job, wasn’t he a victim?”
Job was no victim
for he chose not to be, instead trusting, and thereby was not devoured by
Satan. Job continues as one of God’s choice examples for us.
Job said “God may
kill me, but still I will trust him and offer my defense.” (CEV 13:15) And what
would that defense be? The major clue is in 1:8. Read the chapter. Job’s continuing
trust is his defense!
Trust in God is
our only viable acceptable defense before God . . . and against Satan and wily
company.
