VIRTUOUSLY WORKING AT CONSCIOUS THOUGHT

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
I don’t believe
working at devoted conscious thought comes natural to us. I believe that most
of the time we think as programmed responding to events whereas the thinking
that Paul urges is outside of and beyond the norm. For example: Something nice
is done for you and you’re thankful for it, but that’s it for the instance,
whereas Paul is advocating decisive portions of time dedicated to thankful
appreciative thought; this employment being a setting aside from all other
activity. This leaves us with the question “When have I done this worthwhile
exercise?”
