DO TO VERSUS DUE TO

Romans 12:1-3 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to
this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say,
through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of
himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as
God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Awoke at 6am
pondering today’s topic, soon coming up with the descriptive title.
Jesus said that
if we love Him we keep His commandments. (Jn.14:15, 23) If done, this is done
one of two ways. One way according to the essence of God’s Word living (Jn.1:1)
and written (Jn.17:17; 2Tim.3:16-17). The other way being contrary to the
substance of Scripture.
Obedience to
prove we love Him is not simply the lesser way. It is the opposite of that
which pleases God. Life centered in right over wrong to prove love falls short
of what God provides for and wants of us.
Deference due to loving
Jesus delights God in that it is authentic worship. This is no New Testament
precept. It is throughout God’s Word. The Ten Commandments embodies this truth:
The first 2 as productive basis. Commandments 3 thru 10 summarizing production.
Let us beware and
stay far from the snare of actions to prove we love God and/or people. Being
Christ-like means actions because of love, not because we’re striving to confirm
our love.
