Romans 5:8-11 But God commendeth his love toward us, in
that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now
justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when
we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also
joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the
atonement.
Is there a single
moment that we are not confronted with sin and its influence? This awful
business began with Adam’s lack of trusting Jehovah God. Since his disobedience
life night and day has been a struggle within and against this corrupted environment.
(Rom.5:12) Within being the matter of self, our old nature (Rom.7:20), without
being the influence of the prince and those of this world with him.
(Jn.8:43-44)
For those that have
decided to trust Lord Jesus Christ for His personal redemption, we live a
different life. Indeed the same sinful world, but distinctively different due
to God’s indwelling Holy Spirit; the venue surrounding us unchanged, but our
view now contrary to.
I close this
morning’s thoughts with a passage from Paul’s letter to the believers in
Ephesus: “… you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked,
following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the
air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our
flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature
children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy,
because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our
trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and
raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ
Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his
grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved
through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a
result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created
in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should
walk in them.” (ESV Eph.2:1-10)
