 BLASPHEMY

1Corinthians [MKJV, the gospel summarized] 15:1-5 And, brothers, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and in which you stand; by which you also are being kept safe, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures; and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the Twelve. 

  Blasphemy, though still practiced, is a word seldom heard these days. Fallen from our vocabulary and more importantly, our understanding and therefore our application.

  “Blasphemy is an injury offered to God, by denying that which is due and belonging to him, or attributing to him that which is not agreeable to his nature.” penned Webster in his 1828 dictionary. Another site explains that blasphemy is derogating the prerogatives of God. For this blue collar man, meaning that blasphemy disparages and distracts from the authority of Jehovah God Almighty. For us, said authority is His Word written, the Bible, and living, Jesus being God Incarnate (Jn.1:1).

  The first blasphemer was Satan in the garden at Eden as he twisted the Truth. (Gen.3:1-4) There being many continuing since with their adding to and/or subtracting from God’s Word.

  A few present day examples of beliefs taught by some professing Christians: Universalism, the belief that everyone goes to heaven sooner or later. Everyone is a child of God when His Word clearly states otherwise. Baptismal regeneration. Salvation by good works. Gender deviation is not sinful, “God made them that way.”

  I could list many more blasphemies, but the important life-point is blasphemy teachings direct people from God, not to Him. What need for the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (the gospel) if universalism, good works, everyone is God’s family, et al are really the truth?

  Sadly, this year again there will be blasphemers leading others in Easter celebration when they should be elsewhere coloring eggs.
