ONE
OF THOSE DAYS!

Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in that which
is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust
also in much.
Romans 5:1-6 Therefore being justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we
have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of
the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing
that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience,
hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in
our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet
without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Our family does almost all of their own
construction, maintenance, and repair. Why? Because we enjoy it (It’s our
golf.), the financial savings (From a few dollars to tens of thousands.), the
financial investment (In increased property value and saved costs banked.), we
prefer doing it ourselves, the satisfaction, as example before and training of
children and grandchildren, to aid others, and a few other reasons, one of
which is we don’t discuss football, but HTDYI (How To Do It Yourself). Possibly
of greatest import is that our DYIs are wonderful times of fellowship.
Usually projects and tasks go relatively
smoothly with a minimum of expected problems. And then there are; “ONE OF THOSE
DAYS!” A clogged sink drain, typically a simple problem to resolve, requiring
repeated hours of time. There again, like a good athlete, going for the gold.
So what does this bit of sharing have to do
with today’s Scripture? Applicably, much; if so allowed.
For most Christians in the USA there is not
and may not be the tribulation of serious persecution, especially the “escaping
the edge of the sword” kind. (Heb.11:34) But, being spared thus far cruel
mockings and scourgings, imprisonment, being murdered, stoning, be sawn apart
physically while alive, tormented, afflicted on all sides, destitute and
starving (Heb.11:35-39), does not mean that we cannot be matured by our much
lesser tribulations and trials. Including clogged drains et al, whether family
or paid pro cleared?
As a matter of fact, if comparatively lesser
tribulation is the worst we experience, we must let all such difficulty and
ordeal be our classroom to learn mature patience. If we do not do so, how else
can mature patience be accomplished? And, if we cannot accept and benefit by
our proportionally smaller trials, how can we expect to be prepared for larger
distress or responsibility requiring greater patience should it happen? (Lk.16:10;
19:17)
Today’s thought being that for the believer
all is to be seen, practiced, and gained from as a matter of faith, even when
resorting to pressurizing a clogged drain with a water hose resulting in a
blowback requiring many towels, rags, and old curtains, with the old guy
getting drenched in drain goop, including not following his personal rule of
keeping mouth shut while doing said procedure.

PS.
This week’s continuance of family tradition: Doorknob mechanism broke. Grandson,
11, and great granddaughter, 10, disassembled, pried out the broken part, and
installed the replacement, enjoying the task (and the break from schoolwork).
Tomorrow is the installation of a dishwasher. I hope they allow me to at least
let me help with the shoving.
