Matthew [CEV]
22:34-40 After Jesus had made the Sadducees look foolish, the Pharisees
heard about it and got together. One of them was an expert in the Jewish
Law. So he tried to test Jesus by asking, "Teacher, what is the most
important commandment in the Law?" Jesus answered: Love the Lord
your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and most
important commandment.
The second most important commandment is like this one.
And it is, "Love others as much as you love yourself." All the Law of Moses and the Books of the
Prophets are based on these two commandments.
Hebrews 10:24-15 We
should keep on encouraging each other to be thoughtful and to do helpful
things. Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship,
but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially
since you know that the day of the Lord's coming is getting closer.
God encourages
gathering together in participation. This participation in worshipping him very
much includes encouraging our brothers and sisters of His John 1:12 family.
Ah, but what of
these COVID days?!
Temporary
closings and cautions have drastically curtailed assembling for worship.
However, worship is not limited to assembly, nor should it be – for it really
is a personal matter of Jesus’ first commandment.
And neither need
we neglect the second, for no one (even government) prohibits us from lovingly encouraging
one another via email, texting, postal notes and letters . . . even by
telephoning.
Apart we may be.
In heart together
we are.
