DECIDING
Joshua 24:14a [Joshua said] Now, then, fear
Jehovah, and serve Him in sincerity and truth.
2Corinthians 13:5 [Paul urging disciples in
Corinth] Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test
yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is
in you?--unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
We are prone to give ourselves far too much
credit for good character decisions.
I’ve never heard Ann avow “I have decided to
be strong and courageous in trusting God in this trial!” (Incurable fatal
leukemia)
Her present attitude was no sudden change of
heart. She just had and continued to trust Him for deliverance; whether miraculous
healing serving His purpose, or what Ann has always referred to as “The
ultimate deliverance.”
Indeed there are times requiring public
declarations. We see such occasions recorded in Scripture and remember them in
our life.
Such public declaration is not simply the
beginning of journey, but another milestone, the culmination of miles of silent
agreements to God working in our life. (The same is true for the lack of godliness;
a product of many overt and/or silent disagreements with God in the life of a
person, group, or nation.)
Biblical Christian strength of character is
not something we suddenly decide on when testing comes. It’s something that should
be developed then ready be in place. A difficult ordeal only reveals what is or
is not already established.
In times good or bad we simply act as who and
what we already are. No surprise in this.
