LEXES
Vocabulary is important to communication, this almost a
silly declaration. Something we know, thought don’t always practice. Though I work
at it I too fail to make sense at times. (And get laughed at by family and
friends.)
With the English language having almost 1,000,000 words,
being the by distance the wordiest in the world. And yet we only use up to
2,000 of the words in a week, this in spite of all the ways we now communicate.
Actually, though we should not, I suspect we could manage
communication quite well using only 50-100 words. An uppity intellectual, says “Many
do so.”
As with all things, lexes included, there is priority. The
Word very plainly speaks of this.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the
Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said,
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Mt.4:3,
4; Lk. 4:4)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Tim.2:15)
How say we?
