GROW UP!
I observed or experienced
many things in 43 years employment with a large company. Some wonderful, others
not, and more than a few unusual. Today I mention one.
In 1955 when I was hired
the workplace was still old school in that employees did not bring their
personal problems to work. This changed.
Some years later the retiring/hiring
cycle kicked in. A number of hires were new school, products of a different
public school system than that which we suffered or enjoyed. A different education
that included exposure to neuroses, phobias, psychoses et al and professional
counselors to aid when you discovered you had one or more of the mental
health problems.
As more of these new hires
accumulated, they demanded the same availability in our workplace. A psyche pro
was hired.
To avoid stigma individuals
could request a medical department appointment without giving a reason. (A dead
giveaway in itself.)
After a period of time the
company let the counselor go.
He was telling most of his
clients that they needed to grow up!
As one of God’s penman, as
recorded in 1Corinthians chapter 13 the
Apostle Paul highlights this need for one and all.
