LIKE A GOOD SOLDIER
A Good Soldier of
Christ Jesus
2Timothy [GW] 2:1-4 My
child, find your source of strength in the kindness of Christ Jesus. You've
heard my message, and it's been confirmed by many witnesses. Entrust this
message to faithful individuals who will be competent to teach others. Join
me in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Whoever serves in the military doesn't get mixed up in non-military activities. This pleases his commanding officer.
We lived for 13 years in a primarily military
community. The church we participated in averaged 300 on Sunday morning. About
half active military families, with the exception of we few never-beens, the
other half veterans. Additionally, in the summer military academy cadets were
very much involved. My family, children included, treasure the grand educational
and emotional experience.
The men and women, boys and girls, were ready
made to be good soldiers for Christ. They were excellent examples of mission
mindedness in action, doing so without demand or expectation of applause or
recognition. And in fact, seldom received it.
May we too prioritize the most important
mission!
