WORKING TO BE A CHRISTIAN
John 3 … Jesus answered [Nicodemus], “Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of
God.” …“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes [to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or
thing), that is, credit; by implication to entrust (especially one’s spiritual
well being to Christ): - believe (-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with.] in
him should not perish but have eternal life.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them. [As always, read and study all Scripture references in context.]
Today’s title describes the
impossible. Persons cannot work to be a Christian! Ephesians 2:8-10 makes this
very clear that there are no works that result in becoming a Christian; moral, charitable,
sacrificial, dedication or any other good character efforts.
Jesus explained this truth clearly
and firmly to Nicodemus, a man of devoutness. We individually “must be born-again”
for we are “already condemned” regardless of whether we are virtuous or not! (Jn.3:1-18)
Trust Jesus, see the
kingdom of God, work accordingly.
