THE TRANSFORMING LIGHT OF LOVE
Matthew 5:13-16 Ye
are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith
shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and
to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city
that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and
put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that
are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Mark 12:28-33 And
one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and
perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first
commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the
commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with
all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than
these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the
truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the
understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love
his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and
sacrifices.
Too often today in
moral zeal we act from a feeling of resentment. Yes, even we Christians are
quite capable of doing so. I myself battle this inclination many days, knowing
that doing so does not provide light, but lovelessly contributes to the rubble
of society. The CRT (Critical Race Theory) response is an example. Whereas in
our responses we should bring light every time, we do not.
It’s about people of
all shades needing God’s transformative light!
It will never be
perfect, but we may make it better.
