STILL HIDING?

STILL HIDING?
Friday, August 30, 2019

Genesis [MKJV] 3:1-10  Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Is it so that God has said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, for God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make wise, she took of its fruit, and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. And the eyes of both of them were opened. And they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made girdles for themselves. And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God in the middle of the trees of the garden. And Jehovah God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself.

Do we like Adam and Eve still hide from God?
Indeed we do. Not in physical terrain, but in controlling areas of our life our way; deciding what we think is right or wrong, we practice spiritual inaccessibility.

TIS ENOUGH

TIS ‘ ENOUGH

Acts [MKJV] 9:1-6  And Saul, still breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest  and asked letters from him to Damascus to the synagogues; so that if he found any of the Way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
But in going, it happened as he drew near to Damascus, even suddenly a light from the heaven shone around him. And he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me? And he said, Who are you, lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you persecute. It is hard for you to kick against the goads. And trembling and astonished, he said, Lord, what will You have me to do? And the Lord said to him, Arise and go into the city, and you shall be told what you must do.
2Timothy 3:16-17  All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.
2Peter 1:2-4  Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, according as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue, through which He has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, so that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Something some of we saints have in common with Paul is that with difficulty we learn love and grace. His first biggest lesson was his being struck on the road to Damascus as he continued doing what he believed to be his righteous duty, doing so with the sanction and authorization of the religious leaders.
The lesson of maturation in love and grace being one in continuance; it is not a simple one time kneeling at an altar in dedication. Later in Paul’s new life God again reminded him of His sufficiency. (2Cor.12:1-11)
What of us, think we that we’ve accomplished complete fitness in embracing “All Scripture”? Or, do we in confessing our weakness trust in God’s sufficiency?

GLOAT NOT

GLOAT NOT
Wednesday, August 28, 2019

John 14:23-27 Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Word. And My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My Words, and the Word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me. 25 I have spoken these things to you, being present with you. 26 But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Is there joy in seeing individuals and groups fail?
Having been there, still an observer, and occasionally regressed, obviously yes.
I stop for a moment to recall my first conscious gloating. Two readily came to mind: When the elementary playground school bully fell to the ground sniveling after a solid cane rap on his ankle by Mr. Bosley. But my first major period of gloating was in the WWII devastating destruction of the German and Japanese homelands.
Refraining from gloating is a habit pleasing to God.
It wasn’t until after trusting Lord Jesus Christ that I realized reveling in the failure of those I didn’t like or even hated was an emotionally compensating for my immature need for self-esteem; the lack of peaceful confidence in, through and by Him; His example, direction, and provision.
I much prefer His solid ground this side of gloating’s unhealthy wallow. (Ps.40:2)
I thank God, His Word written (2Tim.3:16-17) and Living (Jn.1:1; 14:16-27) for redeeming (Eph.2:1-5) me and family. (Jn.1:12)
Go to any dictionary or thesaurus and it will explain gloating in limited fashion. Study God’s Word and we discover gloating is based in fear; the lack of love and peace. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He who fears has not been perfected in love.” (1Jn.4:18)
Though gloat does rhyme with float, it does not do so. It sinks the soul of man. Beware the leadenness of gloating.

ESSENTIAL DOCTRINE?

ESSENTIAL DOCTRINE?
Tuesday, August 27, 2019

2Timothy chapter 3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. … [with men] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. But thou hast fully known my [Paul] doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, persecutions, afflictions, … evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (Incomplete text, Please read entire chapter.)

Essential doctrine, really? I share today from conversations with professing Christians and leave you to consider:

Genesis record? You gotta be kidding! What tree did you fall out of?!

Yes, I’m a Christian. Do I believe in any virgin birth? No, I don’t.

Am I going to heaven? Sure am cause I’m trusting Jesus just like he said we must do. Do I believe he was God in a body here? Not. I believe God sent the guy to teach us how to live and be saved.

Yes I’m born-again. I still make mistakes, but I don’t sin like other people. Do I believe in the resurrection? Well, I’ve got some serious questions about that.

Holy Spirit? Nah, I don’t understand that stuff so I rely on good conscience.

Read the Bible every day? No, I don’t like to read, so I rely on God’s Holy Spirit to tell me what to do.

You bet I believe there’s evil in this world! Satan a real person? Nope, it’s just a representative example.

Heaven? Absolutely!! Hell? Well, yeah, maybe, but the Bible says God is love, so I don’t believe so.

Do I believe God preserved the veracity of the Bible. Not exactly . . . I find it helpful to me as a Christian but it’s full of contradictions don’t you know? Plus, there’s some things in there that I just can’t believe.

Truth? What is truth?? The Bible as a Christian’s utmost guide book? Uh uh.

John chapter 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

THE ESSENTIALLITY  OF UNITY
Monday, August 26, 2019

Ephesians 4:1-7  I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the calling with which you are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love,  endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in you all. But to every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
John 17:1-26  Jesus spoke these words and lifted up His eyes to Heaven and said, …  that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. [Please read entire chapter in your favorite translation.]

Beyond being nice and comfy, why is church unity essential?
·         It is a matter of our calling as His saints.
·         Disunity is our walking in egocentric arrogance; unity exalts our Lord, disunity is result of self exaltation.
·         Disunity denies us the full benefits of His grace.
·         Unity makes for powerful synergy.
·         Unity is being one in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
·         Unity is authentic worship pleasing to God. (Rom.12:1-3)
·         Unity is effectual witness to those lost and dying without Christ’s redemption. (Jn.17:21)

JEPHTHAH'S DAUGHTER

JEPHTHAH’S DAUGHTER

Judges 11:29-40

Now that you have read the story you know about Jephthah and his vow, but have you thought about his daughter? What do you suppose he would have done if she begged him not to kill her? What if she had cried and said “God won’t expect you to do that – He knows you didn’t mean me!”?
Do you think he would still have kept his vow? How many times have we , or someone we know, let ourselves be talked out of doing what we knew we should do?
Oh, if I only could be the kind of person Jephthah’s daughter was – a person my friends and loved ones could count on to help them be their best!

THE MATTER OF CONSCIENCE

THE MATTER OF CONSCIENCE
Friday, August 23, 2019

Genesis 3:1-8 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made.
Ephesians 4:17-32 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should not walk from now on as other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart. For they, being past feeling, have given themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and were taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus. For you ought to put off the old man (according to your way of living before) who is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And you should put on the new man, who according to God was created in righteousness and true holiness. Therefore putting away lying, let each man speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath, neither give place to the Devil. Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, so that he may have something to give to him who needs. Let not any filthy word go out of your mouth, but if any is good to building up in respect of need, that it may give grace to the ones hearing. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you are sealed until the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and tumult and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.

Man is born with a conscience, but how dependable is the old adage “Let your conscience be your guide.”?
Before John 3:3 faith in Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior, conscience is grounded in chosen familial and/or cultural mores that may or may not integrally include God’s Law. (Rom.2:14-15.) The USA as a “Christian nation” is a prime example of this.
In God’s Word, the first mention of conscience is Genesis, and guilty theirs’ was (Gen.3:7-8). Elsewhere the Bible speaks of a pure conscience (2Tim.1:3); without guilt; though one may even have, as Paul, a horrid pre-Damascus Road history. (Acts 7:58-8:13; 9:1-6)
For both non-believer and Christian, repetitive violation of moral standards desensitizes one’s conscience. (James 1:14-16; 1Thes.5:19; 1Tim.4:1-3)
For the Christian pursuing godliness, exercising personal examination (Acts 24:14-16; 1Cor.11:28-29) and John 1:9 confession is essential to both maintenance and progress in realizing the Hebrews 9:14-15 life.
May God now and forevermore grant you according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. (Eph.3:16-19)  EBB4

PS. Once again, for God to work in our lives we must lookup, consider, and submit to His Word. Without doing so our conscience will be very much our own, disastrously apart from Him.

EMPOWERED BY GOD'S LOVE

EMPOWERED BY GOD’S LOVE
Thursday, August 22, 2019

Romans 5:8-11 But God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the reconciliation.
1John 4:1-21 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God; and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the antichrist you heard is coming, and even now is already in the world. You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world, therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us. The one who is not of God does not hear us. From this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. 8 The one who does not love has not known God. For God is love. In this the love of God was revealed in us, because God sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation concerning our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. In this is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, that as He is, so also we are in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He who fears has not been perfected in love. We love Him because He first loved us. If anyone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar. For if he does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And we have this commandment from Him, that he who loves God should love his brother also.

An egocentric presumptuous attitude toward life is insolent in thought and manner. Having suffered being such person, this I know. Having suffered such persons, this I experienced.
Presupposing God’s care, His love for His creation, humankind, is not rash arrogance in belief and behavior.  Being such a person when surrendered in spirit to God’s Spirit, this I know. Being blessed with, enjoying fellowship with other such persons, this I experience. Even though departed, Ann continues as my most constant fellow in this.
Let us persist in encouraging one another to be unwavering in the things that we have learned and have been assured of, knowing from that from our new birth in and through God’s only begotten Son we now know the Holy Scriptures which are able to make us wise to salvation living through faith in Christ Jesus. (Jn.3:16; 1Thes.5:11; 2Tim.3:14-17)
Make no mistake fellow travelers, presupposing God’s love and care is not conceited presumption; it is trust and reliance releasing and empowering, of and from God, without which we are motivated by and act in fear. Presupposing His love and care, we live and act in harmony with true love; giving of self in the manner of mature godliness. (Jn.3:16; 1Jn.4:18)
Fear does not exist where his love is. Living in God’s perfect love rids fear. If, when, we live in fear we are denying ourselves God’s love. (1Jn.4:18)

CONVERSATIONAL TURNING POINT

CONVERSATIONAL TURNING POINT
Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Romans [ESV] 1:1-6; 10:8-14 Rom 1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ … But what does [God’s Word] say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

  Conversations have turning points.
Imagine knowing a famous person, an entertainer, athlete, wealthy and influential . . . or possibly just another man, woman, or child that we greatly love and esteem.
In conversation we’re asked “Hey, don’t you know __________?” The conversation turns as we, as is normal, tell about that person, even enthusiastically doing so.
In conversation religion comes up . . . presenting Christian the opportunity or invitation to tell about Jesus, He whom Christian says and sings we greatly love and esteem.
How then does the conversation then turn on Christian’s part?
  Toward, about, Lord Jesus Christ?
  Christian going mute?
Christian compromising by sticking to socially acceptable generic “god” or safer “churchy” discussion?
Romans 10:8-14 addresses conversational turning point; carefully hear what is said for it speaks of our true heart belief.
Our mouth says what comes from inside us. Let us think not otherwise.  (Mt.12:34)

CHRISTIAN SAINTS

CHRISTIAN SAINTs
Something to thoughtfully ponder: “Christian(s)” is only mentioned 3 times in KJV, all in the NT. Two of those times are not attributable to believers’ usage.  Only one is. Whereas “saints” is commonly used throughout God’s Word to identify His family. One question to consider being “Would my attitude and actions be any different if I Biblically identify and think of myself and John 1:12 brothers and sisters as a saint?”  EBB4
