   2Timothy [GW] 2:1-8 My child, find your source of strength in the kindness of Christ Jesus. You've heard my message, and it's been confirmed by many witnesses. Entrust this message to faithful individuals who will be competent to teach others. Join me in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Whoever serves in the military doesn't get mixed up in non-military activities. This pleases his commanding officer. Whoever enters an athletic competition wins the prize only when playing by the rules. A hard-working farmer should have the first share of the crops. Understand what I'm saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. Always think about Jesus Christ. He was brought back to life and is a descendant of David. This is the Good News that I tell others.

   2Timothy 4:1-4  I solemnly call on you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge those who are living and those who are dead. I do this because Christ Jesus will come to rule the world. Be ready to spread the word whether or not the time is right. Point out errors, warn people, and encourage them. Be very patient when you teach. A time will come when people will not listen to accurate teachings [sound doctrine]. Instead, they will follow their own desires and surround themselves with teachers who tell them what they want to hear. People will refuse to listen to the truth and turn to myths.

  The New York (AP) lead-in line reads “Dan Brown is once again taking on the big questions. ‘Will God survive science’ asks the author of the blockbuster THE DaVINCI CODE and other philosophical-religious thrillers …” Brown’s next novel THE LOST SYMBOL is now followed by his recent ORIGIN. Beyond intriguing entertainment all 3 are designed to influence people away from God to the god of science. For Brown the move from religion to religion began with a boyhood visit to Boston’s Museum of Science resulting in his asking a priest about being confused by the theory of evolution contradicting the story of Adam and Eve. Sadly, the priest responded “Nice boys don’t ask that question.”

  Of course I’ve not personally interviewed Brown. I have however read his interviews out of which I conclude his religion was based in what I consider the stuff of church as opposed to foundation in the veracity of sound doctrine.

  As a boy I too was awed by religious ambience. The flickering light of candles and gorgeous filtering windows set in a place of scent and intoning sentences. I too was exposed to the theory of evolution and wondered. When questioning however I was not curtly dismissed by some priest. Thankfully I was treated respectfully by a follower of Christ. Bud Bond directed me to read and consider sound doctrine, centering initially of the veracity of God’s Word. In particular TEN REASONS WHY I BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD. By William W.   What of us that identify ourselves as Christian? How do we respond to the questioning Browns in our life? Especially our children. Are we steadily making use of God’s readily available equipping? Are we able with sound doctrine responding to quizzers, or are we simply inviting them to participate in religious pageantry?

  These are issues that daily compel this man.
